In the last ten years I have worked with a variety of clients in Cornwall and the South West and previously national and international clients based in London, South Africa and Asia.
Since moving back to Cornwall in 2001, I have used the skills and experience that I developed working with larger companies to provide marketing support to a wide variety of local businesses and organisations. From leading a team to help clarify the communication objectives of Objective One to designing a logo, posters and brochure for Joanne Hurley’s new business, Sea Squirts.
Smith and Reed Recruitment started with a brand definition to help them bring their 25 year old company up to date and that led to redesigning their shop front, website, literature and whole marketing approach.
Duncan Cook had a mould breaking idea for installing IT and entertainment home networks in the South West. What he didn’t have was a name or indeed any form of marketing plan. Homedianet now has a logo, a website and it’s first major new contracts.
Other clients in Cornwall and the South West include tourist attractions, hotels and restaurants, business-to-business clients and companies producing a range of goods and services from cider to exhibition stands.
In all these cases, I have tried to develop and exploit brand and marketing opportunities to improve their businesses. Their strategic business needs have been analysed and in the majority of cases some form of brand definition has been produced for them so that they have a clearer picture of exactly what sort of marketing activity they should do, what that should be saying and to who.
Before moving back to Cornwall I was Executive Creative Director of McCann-Erickson in Korea, a £55million advertising agency with clients such as Coca-Cola, Motorola, Microsoft, Nestle and L’Oreal. I was responsible for the agency’s entire creative output as well as managing my department of 35 people. In the time I was there we produced campaigns that successfully grew our clients business, launched new products for them and won awards in Asia and around the world.
In 1996, I was Executive Creative Director of Saatchi & Saatchi in South Africa. During the four years that I was with Saatchi & Saatchi, we produced the advertising, marketing and branding for the new South African National Lottery, launched Lexus into the country and re-launched DStv, their largest satellite television station.
Before moving to South Africa, I had been working in London as a commercial film director making films in Europe and America as well as England. During that time I also worked as a freelance consultant on marketing and advertising projects throughout Europe.
The years before had been spent in advertising agencies in London where I had been Creative Director on Guinness for a number of years, and been part of the team who launched Nike in England. In my years in advertising I won more than 50 international creative awards.
